SAFELOG and Opteran partners for low cost Autonomy

Opteran Technologies and SAFELOG have announced a multi-year collaboration to integrate autonomy behaviour  into SAFELOG's mobile robots.

Mobile Robots  operate in challenging environments like warehouses and factories, where dust, dynamic lighting, and ever-changing obstacles are common.

AMRs (Autonomous Mobile Robots) are substituting AGVs in many applications, due to their ability to independently determine the best path to a destination and avoid obstacles.

The challenge, however, is that currently, there are few or no solutions that are 100% reliable in highly chaotic environments. 🤷🏽‍♂️

One key goal is reducing robot failure due to localization errors seen in current 2D and 3D LIDAR, and vSLAM technologies.

Mobile robotics manufacturers must tackle this challenge using the various technologies available.

In this case, SAFELOG has choosen Opteran's localization software  who promises quicker, more efficient project launches without needing this additional infrastructure.

Opteran's approach, dubbed Natural Intelligence, replicates navigation methods found in nature, derived from a decade of research on insect brains.

This technology offers significant performance improvements in mobile robots, a crucial factor for SAFELOG's customer base.

Michael Reicheicher, SAFELOG's Managing Director, expressed his admiration for Opteran Mind's capabilities in overcoming warehouse autonomy challenges.

Opteran estimates their solution to be cost-effective, potentially under $160 USD using low cost Sony IMX219 cameras, contrasting sharply with current high-cost autonomy solutions ($8,400 USD for a 2D LiDAR setup to $27,000 USD for a 3D LiDAR set-up).

David Rajan, CEO and co-founder of Opteran Technologies, highlighted the partnership with SAFELOG as a key milestone in commercializing Opteran Mind.

The technology's compatibility with standard inputs and outputs makes it an attractive and simple solution for existing mobile robots.
