AGV Simulation Benefits and Software for Unstoppable Logistics

Mobile Robot SimulationI've always been interested by the potential of mobile robots to transform material handling operations. But it wasn't until I started researching logistics flow simulation that I realized how transformative this technology can be.

AGV dynamic simulation is transforming logistics operations by providing solutions for bottlenecks, mobile robots fleet size, system saturation, charging times, etc.

AGV Simulation Benefits

AGV simulators, identify and resolve congestions before they affect operations by simulating layout structure and workflows, allowing for route optimization and smooth performance.

Simulator also assists in determining the ideal number of AGVs for your fleet, balancing production and cost efficiency.

You can even simulate and test different types of automated guided vehicles, with their own parameters like speed, acceleration, battery discharge, etc, so it's possible to select the best solution based on the simulation.

Simulation assesses system saturation under various conditions, offering significant data for sustaining a smooth logistical operation.

Furthermore, it determines optimal AGV charging timings, taking into account parameters like as power needs and charging stations, to ensure mobile robots are available without creating delays or downtime.

In this article, I explain my own ideas and expertise with logistics flow modeling of Automated Guided Vehicles and Autonomous Mobile Robots and how it may help you make the most of your robot investment.

AGV Simulation Advantages

What are the main benefits of AGV Simulation?

Simulation Facilitates the Sales Process

This is the first because it is my favorite... easy to understand, my primary task is to sell mobile robot systems.

I promise that logistics flow modeling can be an effective sales tool for mobile robot providers.

Vendors may develop confidence and illustrate the value of their service by showing potential clients how the robots will function in customer’s environment.

The target is to simplify customer's decision-making process and enhance trustfulness for more fruitful relationships.

AGV simulation Reduces  Implementation Risks

As someone who has direct experience with the problems of deploying mobile robots, I understand how frightening change can be, especially when it includes big capital expenditures.

Yes, yes... your supplier will tell you that there won't be any traffic or congestion problem... well... there's always a problem, let's call it "challenge".

That's when automated guided vehicles simulation came in handy!

By running multiple scenarios, I was able to detect possible concerns ahead of time and make data-driven decisions, lowering the risks connected with my investment significantly.

You can test everything:

✅ different paths

✅ number of missions

✅ number of robots

✅ different load handling solutions, etc.

At this point, it's crucial that the end user provides precise information from WMS, truck loading/unloading, and production schedules to create realistic models that reflect youroperation's unique challenges.

Integrating past data ensures the simulation accounts for variables such as seasonal trends, peak demands, and operational fluctuations.

The only limit is your imagination.

AGV Simulation Increases Flexibility

Working in logistics has taught me the value of swiftly adjusting to an ever-changing sector.

I was able to use simulation to examine various scenarios, such as fluctuating demand, seasonal patterns, or new product lines, and alter my mobile robot operations accordingly.

Communication and Collaboration Simplified

This is great. The influence of logistics flow modeling on communication and teamwork was one of the most surprising benefits I uncovered.

Simulation brought together diverse teams and stakeholders by visualizing the whole logistics process, allowing us all to better comprehend the flow of commodities and the function of mobility robots.

Improved communication and cooperation resulted in easier operations and a more unified working atmosphere, something I had no idea it could be so dramatically improved.

AGV Simulation Improves Layout Efficiency

When I initially began investigating logistics flow modeling, I was blown away by its capacity to maximize warehouse and production shopfloors efficiency.

It's like having a psychic for your business!

I could simulate potential robot configurations and operations before deploying them, ensuring that I was making the most use of my customer's space and resources.

The end result? Lower operating expenses, faster lead times, and more customer satisfaction. What a win-win situation!

What are the main software tools for agv logistics simulation?

There are several software solutions available for logistics simulation, each offering unique features and capabilities to address different aspects of logistics operations.

Some of the most widely used logistics simulation tools include:

FlexSim

FlexSim is my favourite, it's the one I use.  ❤ I love it because it counts on many modules and specific features for mobile robots.

It is a powerful 3D simulation software designed to model, analyze, and optimize complex systems, including logistics operations.

It offers a wide range of tools and features for modeling material handling systems, such as conveyor systems, etc, allowing users to visualize and improve their logistics processes.

Siemens Plant Simulation

Plant Simulation, is a discrete event simulation software that enables users to model, simulate, and optimize production systems and logistics processes.

Its powerful features and industry-specific libraries make it suitable for applications such as warehouse planning, production line optimization, and supply chain management.

In my opinion, the main benefit is that it can be integrated with mobile robots having SIEMENS plcs to perform virtual commissioning.

AnyLogic

AnyLogic is a versatile, multi-method simulation software that enables users to create complex models for various industries, including logistics.

Its flexibility allows for the integration of system dynamics, agent-based, and discrete event modeling techniques, making it suitable for simulating warehouse operations, transportation systems, and supply chain networks.

Simio

Simio is a simulation and scheduling software that provides an object-oriented approach to modeling, making it easy for users to build and analyze logistics models.

It offers a variety of pre-built objects, such as vehicles, conveyors, and robots, which can be customized to represent specific logistics operations.

Flexus

Flexus AG is a German software company specializing in logistics and production optimization.

They have developed the FLX-TLS (Transportation Logistics Simulation) software, which is a powerful tool for simulating and optimizing intralogistics processes.

FLX-TLS is designed to support users in planning, testing, and optimizing material handling systems and processes, including transportation, storage, and order picking.

Conclusions

Now that I've shared my personal experience with logistics flow simulation for mobile robots, I hope you're motivated to learn more about this game-changing technology.

Remember that adopting the correct software tools and collaborating with skilled individuals who can help you through the process are the keys to success.
